The Baby Hammock

For the first two months of his life my son, Owen, wouldn’t sleep anywhere but in between me and my wife, Liz, in our bed. Luckily, it was king-sized. No crib or co-sleeper for him. You could rock him for an hour, he could be sound asleep, but the moment you put him down his eyes popped open and he started to wail. Not fun.

But I never could get use to the whole family in the bed sleeping arrangement. I didn’t sleep well, and neither did my wife. Then Liz found the Amby Baby hammock after a search of the message boards for tips. They’re made by an Australian company. Check them out here.

The first night we put him in… he slept through the night. It was really the only good night’s sleep any of us had had since he was born.

He grew out of it at around ten months. And now he happily sleeps in his crib. Life is good.

Baby Loves Disco?

I don’t know too much about this whole “baby disco” thing. I’ve read a bit about it, and saw a pod on Current TV today. It seems kind of like a god awful hipster parent thing… is that what I am? *looking in the mirror*

(gasp!)

I guess I’ll give it a try. I’m curious to see how they clean up those always sticky nightclub floors. Check it out for yourself.

My son just got these new sneakers from Zappos.com. They’re adidas. Much cooler than any of my shoes!

The Psychedelic Sounds of Dennis Wilson

Brian Wilson isn’t the only Beach Boy to have a notable solo career. His brother, Dennis, was a master of psychedelic soul in the 70s… before he descended into that all too common rock star malady of drugs and alcohol. He did complete one awesome album that’s was out of print for many years, but is set to be reissued in April. Pacific Ocean Blue. Check out what Pitchfork had to say.

By the way, I’m convinced that Animal Collective totally ripped off, sorry “were inspired,” by this album.
